Woman Charged in Friday Night Domestic Related Homicide on South Pearl Street
ALBANY, NY – A 41-year-old Albany woman has been charged in connection with a domestic related homicide that occurred Friday evening on South Pearl Street.
On Friday, May 12, 2023 around 4:45 p.m., officers responded to South Mall Towers, 101 South Pearl Street for reports of a person with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers located 58-year-old James West in an eighth floor hallway with a stab wound to his neck. West was evaluated by emergency medical personnel and subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
Through the investigation, information was developed that West was stabbed by Kyisha Smith, a person who was known to West, and that the stabbing occurred during a domestic related altercation between the two inside of the building not far from where West was located by responding officers.
Shortly after the call, Smith was located inside of another apartment within the building and taken into custody.
Smith has been charged with one count of Murder 2nd and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.
She is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday morning in Albany City Criminal Court.
