Three Arrested Following Shots Fired Incident, Handgun Recovered

ALBANY, NY – Three Albany residents were arrested following an incident of shots fired Tuesday evening at Hoffman Park in Albany’s South End.

On Tuesday, May 30, 2023 around 8:00 p.m., an Albany detective who was in the area of Hoffman Park heard several shots being fired in the area of Hoffman and Second Avenues. Shortly after, a patrol officer nearby observed three young males running from the scene. All three males were subsequently apprehended by responding officers following brief foot chases and taken into custody.

Through further investigation, it was determined that the individuals who were apprehended had just fired unknown type handguns towards Second Avenue where several people were occupying the area.

A loaded 9mm handgun was also recovered by officers during the investigation.

All three males, ages 14, 15, and 16, were each charged with one count of Reckless Endangerment 1st and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd. Their names will not be released due to their ages.

All three are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Albany County Family Court.
