Moments After Hearing Gunshots Federal Probationer Arrested By Albany Police Officers For Possessing Loaded Handgun

ALBANY, NY – Albany police officers responding to gunshots early Saturday morning arrested a 34-year-old federal probationer when they found the man to be in possession a loaded handgun.

On Saturday, September 11, 2021 at approximately 3:35 a.m., Albany police officers who were patrolling in the area of Central Avenue and Henry Johnson Boulevard, heard several shots being fired near that location and observed a vehicle fleeing at a high rate of speed. Shortly after, Albany detectives observed the vehicle on the 100 block of Hamilton Street near Philip Street and stopped the vehicle as part of the investigation. Upon being stopped, the driver exited the vehicle and ran from detectives on foot.

Marcel Perry, 34, of Albany, was quickly apprehended by detectives and taken into custody. Through the investigation, Perry was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.

He has been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday morning in Albany Criminal Court.

Shortly after officers heard the shots being fired on Central Avenue, staff from Albany Medical Center Hospital notified police that a 23-year-old woman entered the emergency room with gunshot wounds to her legs. Upon arrival at the hospital, officers determined that she was shot while walking in the area of Central Avenue and Henry Johnson Boulevard.

She is being treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
