Man Who Neglected Dog Charged with Animal Cruelty

Albany, NY

ALBANY, NY – A 24-year-old Albany man who severely neglected his dog on Madison Avenue has been arrested.

On Thursday, January 12, 2023, investigators from the Albany Police Department’s Special Operations Unit who are tasked with investigating complaints of animal cruelty, responded to the Capital District Veterinary Hospital in Latham for a report of a six-year-old female pit-bull that was brought into their facility with several wounds to the body, was severely underweight, hypothermic and suffering from various other medical issues.

Through their investigation, investigators determined that the owner, Tahir Jeffers, failed to provide adequate food, water, medical care and shelter to the dog which ultimately resulted in the dog suffering from starvation, dehydration, hypothermia, multiple puncture wounds, broken teeth and anemia. The dog’s condition resulted in her being semi-conscious when she arrived at the vet.

The dog was treated at the veterinary hospital and turned over the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

Jeffers has been charged with one count of Aggravated Animal Cruelty.

He was arraigned Wednesday in Albany City Criminal Court and released on his own recognizance.
