Man with History of Handgun Possession Arrested Again for Illegally Possessing a Loaded Handgun
ALBANY, NY – A 22-year-old Albany resident is once again facing charges for illegally possessing a loaded handgun in the City of Albany.
On Monday, May 8, 2023 around 10:45 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Sheridan Avenue between Robin Street and Lexington Avenue upon hearing several shots being fired. Shortly after, an Albany police officer attempted to stop an individual on Robin Street near Sheridan Avenue as part of the investigation. The male immediately began to run from the officer and while running, threw a loaded .40 caliber handgun under a parked car.
The suspect, Saviour Wilkerson, was subsequently taken into custody nearby along with the assistance of the Troop G Community Stabilization Unit with the New York State Police.
Wilkerson has been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.
He was arraigned Monday afternoon in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
This is not the first time Wilkerson has been arrested in the City of Albany for illegally possessing a loaded handgun. On December 16, 2021, Wilkerson was operating a vehicle on Clinton Avenue near Lexington Avenue when stopped by the Albany County Sherriff’s Office for a violation of the Vehicle and Traffic Law. During the traffic stop, Wilkerson was found to be illegally possessing a loaded 9mm handgun which he had concealed underneath the drivers seat.
