Man Charged Following Menacing on South Pearl Street

A 52-year-old Schenectady man who menaced a woman with a semi-automatic long rifle on South Pearl Street has been arrested.

On Thursday, August 31, 2023 at around 7:40 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of South Pearl Street for a person with a weapon call.  Upon arrival, a female victim told officers that Jeffery Pitts approached her vehicle with a long rifle,  pointed the weapon at her car door and told her he was homeless and needed a ride. 

Pitts was observed by Albany Police Officers on South Pearl Street shortly after the call for service went out and taken into custody.  He was found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic long rifle. 

No injuries were reported during this incident.

Pitts was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd and Menacing 2nd

He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and Remanded to the Albany County Jail.
