Man Charged in Connection with 2021 Homicide
ALBANY, NY – A 27-year-old Albany man responsible for a series of violent incidents last year, including one that resulted in a man’s death, has been arrested and charged with murder.
Nicholas Lewis, was charged following an investigation by detectives from the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit.
On September 19, 2021 around 8:00 p.m., officers responded to Lincoln Park for reports of a man lying near the bushes with several injuries to his face, head and body. Upon arrival, officers discovered 64-year-old Thai Nguyen of Albany with extensive facial and head injuries that included missing teeth and fractures.
Nguyen was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he was admitted for months with serious injuries. On December 21, 2021, Nguyen died as a result of his injuries while at the hospital.
Lewis has been charged with one count of Murder 2nd and was arraigned Monday in Albany City Criminal Court.
On September 30, 2021, Lewis was arrested by Albany detectives in reference to two other incidents that occurred on September 19, 2021.
At approximately 10:15 p.m., officers responded to Maiden Lane near James Street for reports of an unresponsive man lying on the ground with serious injuries to his head. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 45-year-old man bleeding from his head.
The victim was treated at the scene and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury.
Through their investigation, detectives learned that Lewis had stomped on the victim’s head while stealing his cell phone. Lewis was charged with one count of Robbery 1st.
Approximately 20 minutes officers responded to Clinton Square for reports of a man with injuries to his head and face. Upon arrival, a 61-year-old man told officers that someone had approached his and demanded money. The victim stated the suspect then proceeded to punch him in the head causing him to fall to the ground.
The victim was treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to the hospital for lacerations and swelling to his face.
Through the investigation, detectives determined that Lewis had caused the victim’s injuries and also stole the victim’s money and credit card.
He was charged with one count of Robbery 2nd for his role in this robbery incident.
