
Driver Who Struck Man and Woman During Road Rage Incident Arrested

ALBANY, NY – Albany detectives arrested a 53-year-old Albany man late Wednesday night following a call for shots fired and a serious motor vehicle crash.
On Wednesday, June 8, 2022 around 9:40 p.m., officers responded to the area of Cherry Street and Dongan Avenue for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence consistent with gunshots and that a pick-up truck had struck two individual near the intersection.
Through further investigation, detectives learned that three individuals were involved in a road rage incident and that during the altercation, the driver of the pick-up truck intentionally drove towards a male and female and struck them with his truck.
One of the victims, a 24-year-old female, was temporarily pinned under the vehicle and sustained fractured bones and a head injury.
The other victim, a 24-year-old male, sustained a fractured ankle.
Both were treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the pick-up truck, 53-year-old Peter Strandhart of Albany, has been charged with one count of Assault 1st and one count of Assault 2nd.
He was arraigned Thursday in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
