Albany Police Officers Recover Firearms During Separate Incidents

ALBANY, NY – Albany police officers recovered a handgun and various long arms following two separate incidents Monday in Albany.

On Monday, April 11, 2022 around 8:45 a.m., officers responded to the area of Providence Street and Delaware Avenue for reports of a domestic related incident in which a man was in possession of a handgun. Upon arrival, the victim told officers that during an argument, the suspect threatened her with a handgun and fled the scene.

Officers in the area observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle in Lincoln Park and spoke with the driver in reference to the investigation. The driver, 22-year-old Elija Alexander-Lownes, was identified as the suspect in the domestic related incident. A loaded 9mm handgun with a 30 round magazine was located inside the vehicle.

It was also discovered during the investigation that Alexander-Lownes had violated a full stay away order of protection when he had contact with the victim.

He has been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd, and one count of Criminal Contempt 2nd.

He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.

In a separate incident Monday night, officers responded to a home on the 200 block of Sheridan Avenue between Lark and Dove Streets around 5:20 p.m. for reports that a man just pointed a shotgun at a neighbor during a disagreement. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the suspect inside his apartment and took him into custody as part of the investigation.

In addition, detectives executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence where they discovered several long arms including an AR-15 rifle with high capacity magazines and two shotguns.

The suspect, 34-year-old James Davis, was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th and one count of Menacing 2nd.

He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
