Albany Police Officer Recovers Loaded Handgun Following Traffic Stop

ALBANY, NY – A 61-year-old Albany man has been charged with weapon possession following a traffic stop Thursday evening on Grand Street.

On Monday, May 4, 2023 around 6:10 p.m., an Albany police patrol officer observed a vehicle traveling in the area of Grand Street and Morton Avenue with switched license plates and conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, the officer also discovered that the driver illegally possessed a loaded 9mm handgun which was found in the back seat of the vehicle.

The driver, Ansel Caines, was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2^nd and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3^rd.

He was arraigned Friday morning in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
